City of Gold

Coming 2021

Eleanor Mason can travel through books. She owns a magic book given to her by her father. This time, she finds herself in a city turned to gold, by the evil imp, R. She knows that in order to return to her bedroom back home, and hopefully before lunch, she must first solve a riddle.

The evil imp shall unleash the gold

The news shall travel to the enchantress of old

Meet the girl where the sun shines bright

And she will save you from this destructive plight.

The enchantress’ chosen one will succeed

The sun will rise twice, and the imp will concede

To destroy the wheel, take on a disguise

Turn the wheel into gold before the sun begins to rise

The evil imp shall unleash the gold

The news shall travel to the enchantress of old

Meet the girl where the sun shines bright

And she will save you from this destructive plight.

Eleanor stood at the top of a hill, looking down at a field of golden wheat. At first, she thought it was just normal wheat, probably part of a farmer’s crop, but then something about it caught her eye. The sun was incredibly bright, so she squinted, looking hard at the tips of the plants. They glittered. It was the same sheen as if the sun’s rays were hitting pure gold.

“Of course, this is not a normal field,” Eleanor said to herself.

She looked around to see if she could see anyone in the distance, but there was nothing except for the magical wheat. With a deep breath, she started running through the tall plants, just like she had done in fields of soft grass and daisies in the summertime back home. Eleanor loved feeling the soft tips of the wildflowers and expected to feel the same here, so she outstretched her hands, forgetting that these were not the fields back home.

Her fingertips grazed the wheat and Eleanor immediately pulled her hands back in. She stopped and looked at her fingers. They were bleeding. She wiped the blood on her pants and looked at the wheat. She reached out one of her uncut fingers and lightly touched the tip. It was pure gold.

Eleanor looked around again, and found herself surrounded by a sharp crop, burning hot because of the sun.
